Fat sick and nearly dead diet, is a juice diet based on a documentary film released in 2010.

The Film: Fat Sick and Nearly Dead

“Fat Sick and Nearly Dead” is an amazingly inspirational film that follows the weight loss journeys of main character Joe Cross and Phil Staples.

This is a must watch movie for anyone who is wanting to lose weight. And actually for anyone who wants to get inspired! The movie is not just about a juice fast diet, but about two men facing their uncomfortable problems and taking consistent action.

The main character Joe Cross is not only 100 pounds overweight, but he has been suffering from an autoimmune disease that causes rashes all over his body for the last 9 years.

Phil Staples is a truck driver that Joe comes across at a truck stop, who is even more obese at 429 pounds, who eventually calls Joe for help.

In the movie, both Joe and Phil visit their doctors in the very beginning to get an initial checkup, then get periodic testing to monitor their conditions.

Joe even carries around his juicer in his car to make his own juice.

The first few days are the worst for both, since the change is mentally difficult and their bodies are detoxing. However, after the initial period, they both seem to be adjusting to the fast and even feeling good.

After 60 days of juice fasting, Joe loses 82 pounds, is feeling energetic, looking very handsome, and eventually he is completely off his meds.

The story about Phil is also absolutely amazing. Just in the first 5 days, he loses 17 pounds. By the end of his 61-day juice fast, he loses 95 pounds and he continues to lose weight, losing a total of 202 pounds after 10 months.

His dedication and success get noticed by people around him, and he inspires his brother and the people in the community to try the juice fast and actually lose weight.

Fat Sick and Nearly Dead Diet

In the film, the diet is basically a pure juice fast. In other words, the only thing you consume is juice made from fresh vegetables and fruits.

If this sounds too daunting to you, Joe Cross’s blog website lists some other variations of the juice fast including a short weekend juice fast, or a combination of a juice fast and eating solid foods.

During the juice fast, you can drink the juice 4-6 times per day, 16-20 ounces for each juice.

Recommended combinations are 80% vegetables and 20% fruits.

Caffeine is not allowed during the diet, in order to give your body a break.

Pros of the Fat Sick and Nearly Dead Diet

  • You will most likely see very fast results.
  • You will detox your body and become healthier.
  • You will feel energized through consuming lots of nutrients.
  • Juicing is easy and anyone can do it.

Cons of the Fat Sick and Nearly Dead Diet

  • The first few days will feel horrible.
  • Some individuals may experience nutrient deficiency if juice fasting is done for too long.
  • Any extreme diet has a high risk of rebound weight gain. Make sure you do not go back to your old way of eating.

Tips

Watch the movie! It is extremely motivational.

If you take prescription medications, make sure to check with a doctor first to see if juice fasting will be safe for you.

If you are looking to do a pure juice fast for an extended period, you should probably have a doctor check your condition periodically.

Have a strategy in place for maintaining your weight after the diet. You cannot go back to your old ways before the diet. You need to change your diet and exercise routine, and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Quote in the Film by Joe Cross

“I’ve gone from someone who knew to someone who’d do.”
